If you’re having trouble starting a cold mower engine, it could be any one of a number of issues.
A common problem we see is the throttle cable not being positioned correctly. In this case, on a 2013 John Deere Z445 (Briggs), even when the throttle knob was in the choke position, the choke linkage attached to the carburetor was not engaged fully, making a cold start more difficult. By adjusting the linkage cable, we were able to get this mower to start right up every time.
If you’re experiencing a problem with cold starting your mower’s engine, be sure to check the throttle and / or choke linkage.
